PEOPLE MEDICAL CONSULTING

General Practice and the Global Health Emergency: Update –

The Novel Coronavirus has now been declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organisation with 493 dead and over 24,000 infected globally. There have been some cases reported to be asymptomatically viral which has led Australian health authorities to issue new advice and expand the current coronavirus criteria. GPs are advised to wear P2/N95 masks when seeing patients and to present for testing those who have returned from any part of mainland China, not just the Hubei province. They are also advised to direct anyone who they believe may be infected to to their nearest emergency department for testing rather than conducting a test themselves.
