Call for Applications for Appointment to the Scheduled Medicines Expert Committee –

AHPRA is seeking to fill four vacancies on the Scheduled Medicines Expert Committee. This committee advises National Boards on the use of and public health need of scheduled medicines; the training and competence requirements and other general guidelines.

Holiday arrangements for Centrelink and Medicare –

All services and most phone lines providing Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support services will be closed from Wednesday 25 to Friday 27 of December 2019 and Wednesday 1 January 2020. However, online self-service apps such as MyGov will still be available for use.

Doctors can Object to Procedures, Not Specific Patients, Under Revised Religious Discrimination Bill –

Under new legislation, doctors can now refuse to provide treatments to which they object to on religious grounds, as long as they refuse everyone. However, RACGP president Dr Nespolon has placed heavy emphasis on the idea that this Bill has the potential to allow conscientious objection to impede legally available treatments.

End of Year Hours –
