THIS WEEK’S QUESTION…?

Why is AON different to DWS?

What is Area of Need?

An Area of Need is an individual application that the practice makes when they need it. It is assessed based on the individual requirement of the practice and the community.

What is District of Workforce Shortage (DWS)?

DWS is determined by data from the ABS & Medicare, and then a decision is based on a national average. It only changes once per year.

When is Area of Need Required?

An “Area of Need” certificate is only required in the instance that a practice & a doctor is applying for AANG-30 Limited AHPRA Registration, Area of Need. There is an alternate option of “Post Graduate Training & Supervised Practice” instead.

How Do I Apply?

The Area of Need applications are state based and every state has a different application. It is all assessed by the Department of Health however, each state has different criteria to meet for a practice to qualify for an Area of Need certificate.

How Can We Help?

Are you confused about the difference between DWS and AON, or want to know what to apply for if your practice can’t get Area of Need? Our team provide education as well as assistance in applying for the individual applications. Please let us know if we can help 🙂
